An extremely rare pair of George III Neo Classical Loving Cups made in London in 1802 by Solomon Hougham.

These very rare pieces stand on a stepped circular foot decorated with reeding and acanthus spears, in sizes. The vase shaped main body is decorated with raised Classical Bluebell garlands and swirling flower heads. The cups have two side scroll handles decorated with bold building. The front of each piece is engraved with a set of contemporary script initials, below the heraldic badge of the Red Hand of Ulster. Loving Cups from England are extremely rare, especially a pair modelled in this Classical tradition. Both are in quite excellent condition, are well marked on each foot and are of a very good gauge of silver. Two very rare pieces !

Loving Cups were used for communal toasts, their two handled design allowing for them to be passed around easily.
